چکیده

Normal subjects with bipolarity phenotype, even though not diagnosed bipolar disorder, are known to show distinct properties. In this study, we investigate the changes in molecular circadian rhythm after bright light exposure before sleep in normal subjects with bipolarity phenotype. 25 young male subjects were divided to 14 for bipolarity group and 11 for nonbipolarity group after scoring of the mood disorder questionnaire (MDQ). During the first two study days, the subjects were exposed to the normal-living light (150 lux) for 2.5 hours before sleep, and the saliva and buccal cells of subjects were collected for a total six regular times periodically. During the subsequent five days, the subjects were exposed to the bright light (1,000 lux), and the saliva and buccal cells were collected in the same way. The molecular circadian rhythm of cortisol and circadian gene expression ratio (Per1/Bmal1) were analyzed with cosinor regression. Circadian rhythm of cortisol showed a delay of acrophase in both groups after bright light exposure (p<0.001), and bipolarity group showed a significant delay than non-bipolar group (p=0.008). Circadian rhythm of circadian gene expression ratio showed a delay of acrophase (p<0.001) and a decrease of amplitude (p<0.001) after bright light exposure in both groups, but there was no group difference. Bipolarity group showed hypersensitivity in cortisol rhythm than non-bipolarity group after bright light exposure, but not in circadian gene expression. These results suggest that the characteristic molecular circadian rhythm change of bipolarity group may be related to the biological process after circadian gene expression.

Bipolar affective puerperal psychosis: genome-wide significant evidence for linkage to chromosome 16.

OBJECTIVE Vulnerability to the triggering of bipolar episodes by childbirth aggregates in families and may define a genetically relevant subtype of bipolar disorder. The authors conducted a search by systematic whole genome linkage scan for loci influencing vulnerability to bipolar affective puerperal psychosis. METHOD The authors selected families with bipolar disorder from their previous bi...

Identification of Susceptible Loci and Enriched Pathways for Bipolar II Disorder Using Genome-Wide Association Studies

BACKGROUND This study aimed to identify susceptible loci and enriched pathways for bipolar disorder subtype II. METHODS We conducted a genome-wide association scan in discovery samples with 189 bipolar disorder subtype II patients and 1773 controls, and replication samples with 283 bipolar disorder subtype II patients and 500 controls in a Taiwanese Han population using Affymetrix Axiom Genom...

Genome-wide association analysis of age at onset and psychotic symptoms in bipolar disorder.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified several susceptibility loci for bipolar disorder (BP), most notably ANK3. However, most of the inherited risk for BP remains unexplained. One reason for the limited success may be the genetic heterogeneity of BP. Clinical sub-phenotypes of BP may identify more etiologically homogeneous subsets of patients, which can be studied with increase...

Multi-factorial Etiology of Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia in Iran: No Evidence of Borna Disease Virus Genome

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives: Psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder pose a high burden among the general population. Etiological factor(s) of such disorders remain unknown. Borna disease virus (BDV) is a neurotropic virus that has been suggested as an etiological agent for psychiatric disorder...

Familial aggregation of psychotic symptoms in a replication set of 69 bipolar disorder pedigrees.

We found evidence previously of familial aggregation of psychotic symptoms in 65 bipolar disorder pedigrees. This finding, together with prior evidence from clinical, family, neurobiological, and linkage studies, suggested that psychotic bipolar disorder may delineate a valid subtype. We sought to replicate this finding in 69 new bipolar disorder pedigrees. The presence of psychotic symptoms, d...
